What is the Schmieding Center of Senior Health and Education?
The first satellite Center on Aging affiliated with the Arkansas Aging Initiative, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and University of Arkansas for Medial Sciences, the Schmieding Center is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to improving quality of life for older adults and their families through state-of-the-art healthcare, educational programs and home caregiver training.

Northwest Senior Health - Schmieding Center, staffed by a multidisciplinary team of geriatric health professionals, offers primary medical care to older adults that stresses wellness and health maintenance to support individuals to live as independently as possible.

The Center for Senior Education provides geriatrics-focused training, support and education programs for physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, home care assistants and caregivers. The Center also coordinates support groups, as well as community events that relate to aging and associated health issues.

Does SCSHE offer academic education for students?
SCSHE has many learning opportunities available, including the following:

How do I find a professionally trained home caregiver?
The Caregiver Directory is a complete list of graduates of the home caregiver training programs offered by SCSHE. The Caregiver Directory contains the caregiver's name, phone number, preferred work hours and preferred work locations, so people searching for caregivers can choose and contact directly the candidates who are best suited to their needs. SCSHE has a comfortable interview room that is available for conducting caregiver interviews. In addition, there is a social worker on staff to assist with the interview process upon request. I'm interested in a caregiving career. How do I become a professionally trained home caregiver?
SCSHE offers home caregiver training courses that use the unique Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Curriculum. The following three courses build on one another: Elder Pal (EP), a 25-hour foundation course; Personal Care Assistant (PCA), an additional 25 hours of content and skill competency and Home Care Assistant (HCA), an additional 50 hours of content and skill competency on home care, long-term care and aging issues.
